Funeral services were held at United Methodist Church in Slayton on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jon Marburger officiating.

Shirley Hintermeister was born on May 13, 1927 in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota to Howard and Clara Holm Spencer. The family later moved to the Holm family farm near Chandler, Minnesota. Shirley, her mother and her grandmother later moved to Slayton, Minnesota. Shirley graduated from Slayton High School in 1945. In June of 1945 Shirley started working for Production Credit Association (Farm Credit) in Slayton. On January 9, 1947 she and Jack Hintermeister were married at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton and Shirley continued working for Farm Credit eventually working her way up to loan officer. Shirley loved working with the area farmers. She retired in 1985 as the first female loan officer in the state of Minnesota. Shirley and Jack also owned many rental properties in Slayton. Their renters became part of the family. Jack passed away on February 15, 1996. Shirley remained in their home until February 2011 when she moved to Garnette Gardens Senior Living Community in Redwood Falls, Minnesota to be near family. On February 26, 2014 Shirley moved to Seasons Hospice Home in Redwood Falls and passed away there on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the age of 86. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton and served on the Nominating and Audit Committees. Shirley was active in the MYF Youth Group and was youth coordinator for over 30 years. She was a past member of the Young Republicans and the Slayton Booster Club. Shirley volunteered for many different organizations in Slayton helping with their charity drives.  She loved spending time with family and coffee time with friends. She enjoyed golfing, water skiing, boating, shopping, and playing bridge and poker. 

Survivors include her three children and their spouses: Nancy Kjarum, Castle Rock, Co, Barb and John Sellevold, Redwood Falls, MN and Scott and Stacy Hintermeister,f Eagan, MN; six grandchildren: Darcy and Brent Hendricks, Dara and Cliff Flowers, Bret and Tracy Swenson and Talia, Maya and Jack Hintermeister; eight great-grandchildren: Lillie and Elise Hendricks, Carson and Cooper Flowers, Josh Swenson and Riley Reyez, Jacob, Emma and Caitlin Swenson and extended family Richard and Linda Wilkison and their four sons: Chad, Todd, Troy and Scott, Tony and Judy Schwartz and Dan Swenson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack, and son-in-law Rod Kjarum.

Funeral services were held at United Methodist Church in Slayton on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jon Marburger officiating.  The organist was Janet Voges with special music by Sue Muck. The pallbearers were Richard Wilkison, Linda Wilkison, Chad Wilkison, Todd Wilkison, Troy Wilkison and Scott Wilkison. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, MN.
