open house planned for December 12th
After almost three years in the planning, the new Murray County Medical Center’s expansion project is now completed. Administration, staff and board members are excited to share with the public the expanded center.

Next Thursday, December 12th an open house is planned beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a program and tours following until 7:00 p.m.

The 34,144 square foot addition to the existing structure almost doubled the size of the facility. The process started because of the need for more patient rooms according to Shari Achterhoff, member of the planning committee. “We also needed to increase the clinic space because it was becoming quite crowded.”

Due to the age of the existing building, the hospital renovations were suggested. The last major remodel was done in 1978. The clinic was added on along with ICU and an increased lobby area. “That was a huge renovation at the time,” commented Achterhoff who had just began her career at MCMC.

Prior to this renovation, the clinic had been located downtown Slayton in what is now the Masonic Lodge.
