Straw Bale Gardening Program

Any backyard, concrete patio, rooftop or driveway, can become a productive garden space, according to the author.
If you thought the only place to grow healthy vegetable crops was in black dirt, then you must attend the Straw Bale Gardens – Breaking New Ground presentation at the Slayton Public Library’s community room. Straw bale gardening pioneer, Joel Karsen, will tell how to grow a garden without weeding, without the “heavy lifting” and without getting down on your knees.   

You will learn to grow a bountiful garden without using herbicides or insecticides, as well as how to plant a wide variety of vegetables, root crops, vine crops, and even beautiful flowers, directly into your “conditioned” straw bales.
