Two years ago, local Girl Scout Service Unit Manager Judy Bloemendaal, went in search of a project that would involve members of the local Girl Scout program and raise funds to benefit the community    

Talking with city officials, the idea was born and began to form for helping to replace some of the city’s aging, unsafe playground equipment. The goal, she says, was to raise funds throughout the Girl Scout centennial year of 2012.

“The community is always there for us,” Bloemendaal observes.  “Whenever we need something they’re there for us.”  And so it began.  When all said and done, the group, with the help of various community organizations and many individuals, had raised a total of $8,600, in a two-year period.
