approve its 2014 preliminary tax levy with an overall increase of 1.48%

The city Monday night approved its 2014 preliminary tax levy with council members voting on an overall increase of 1.48%.  "This is the lowest levy increase in the last thirteen years," City Clerk Josh Malchow commented.  The levy, which will be formally adopted after a public input session set for Monday, December 2, reflected $660,201 in the General Fund, and $160,100 in Bonds for a total of $820,301.

Quotes for the sealcoating of approximately 40,000 square yards of city streets were reviewed and awarded to low bidder Caldwell Asphalt Co.  Inc. with a bid of $1.355  per square yard for a total of $54,200.00.  There was one bid for crack filling from Lawrence Shreffler, for $.65 per foot for a total 15,000' and the council awarded the bid to Shreffler.
