Returning home: Westbrook native joins staff at Slayton Vet Clinic

By: Sheila Crowley Murray County News Staffwriter “It’s like returning home,” commented the newest member of the Slayton Vet Clinic. Dr. Jenn Olsem became part of the staff on May 28th.

A graduate of Westbrook High School, Olsem furthered her education at South Dakota State University, Brookings, South Dakota, for three years. Following her third year, Olsem was accepted into veterinary school at the University of Missouri. There she continued her education for four more years graduating on May 17th of this past spring.

Olsem grew up on a dairy farm near Westbrook and has always been interested in veterinary care. At the young age of five years old Olsem was able to watch the vet perform a c-section on one of their cows. “That was the starting point,” said Olsem. Later, Olsem spent time at the Slayton Vet Clinic observing and helping out.
