Slayton City Council

denied speed limit change on Highway 30
By: Rebecca Hudson Murray County News Staffwriter

A recent request by the city to the Minnesota Department of Transportation to consider adjusting the speed on Minnesota Trunk Highway 30 on the west side of Slayton, was denied.  In a letter dated June 13, Traffic Engineer Michael Lownsbury informed the city that a traffic investigation for speeds on the highway section three had been completed and data supports that the existing speed limit is suitable at this time.

But with five accidents there since January 2010, council member Lee Lokker pointed out, this remains a safety concern.  Agreeing, mayor Miron Carney suggested that other avenues could be consider such as putting up yellow speed suggestions signs along that area.  “There still may be tools we can do to supersede MNDOT,” he said.
