Funeral services were held at St. Annís Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.†
1929 - Verna Theresa Schaffer - 2013

Verna Schaffer was born on February 28, 1929 in Slayton, Minnesota. She was the oldest of six children born to Vurne and Emma Oldewurtel Beach.†She grew up near Slayton and attended country school.†On April 28, 1947 she and Paul Brust were married in Avoca, Minnesota.† Following their marriage they lived on the Brust family farm near Iona, Minnesota.†To this union came eight children. Verna was kept very busy caring for her family, working on the farm and taking care of her large garden. In December 1960 they moved to Worthington, Minnesota where Verna worked at Campbellís Soup Company, Michaelís Supper Club and Fredís Truck Stop.†In 1973 she and Paul divorced.†Verna then moved to Jasper, Minnesota.†Verna later married Dan Archer and they made their home in Beresford, South Dakota.†Dan passed away in August 1984.†Verna continued living in Beresford until 1989 when she returned to Worthington.†On October 26, 1991 she and Harold Schaffer were married in Slayton.†Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton.†Harold and Verna enjoyed traveling and dancing.†In 2007 Verna became a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton.† Harold would visit Verna daily until his health would no longer allow him to. Harold passed away on April 30, 2012.†Verna passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Golden Living Center-Slayton after a long battle with Alzheimerís at the age of 84. Verna was a member of St. Annís Church in Slayton.

Survivors include her seven children and their spouses: Lois and Roger Sibell, Edina, MN, Paulette McHarg, Lismore, MN, James and June Brust, Russell, MN, Dianne and Doug Hinsch, Wabasso, MN, John and Marge Brust, Glencoe, MN, Jeff and Kellie Brust, Rawlins, WY, and Jody and Janine Brust, Dell Rapids, SD; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy Singer, Council Bluffs, IA and Marge Whattler and her husband Dave, Las Animas, CA; one brother Don Beach and his wife Donna, Homer, NE and many nieces and nephews.†She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Dan Archer and Harold Schaffer; son Thomas Brust; son-in-law Roger McHarg and two brothers: Bob and Dale Beach.

Funeral services were held at St. Annís Church in Slayton, MN on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.† The organist was Judy Andrews. The song leader was Joanne Halbur.† The pallbearers were her grandsons.†Interment is at St. Annís Cemetery, Slayton, MN.†To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com. †
