Kathryn Cole was born on October 22, 1920 in Des Moines Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Raymond and Malo (Norton) Norton. She grew up on a farm near Dundee, Minnesota. The family later moved to a farm near Westbrook, Minnesota where Kathryn graduated from Westbrook High School in 1939. On October 7, 1939 she and Loren Cole were married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage they made their home in several communities in southwest Minnesota and eastern South Dakota. In 1957 they moved to Moorhead, Minnesota and Kathryn worked at the business office of Moorhead State College.  In 1958 Kathryn graduated from Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1962 they moved to Clear Lake, Iowa where Kathryn worked as a bookkeeper for a feed company. In 1966 they moved to Des Moines, Iowa where Kathryn worked at Midland Financial. Kathryn retired in 1982. In 1983 they moved to Slayton, Minnesota. Loren passed away on November 12, 1992. Kathryn remained in Slayton until 2010 when she became a resident of the Westbook Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook. She passed away there on April 26, 2013 at the age of 92.  She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Kathryn also was a member of the Women Missionary Society, Eastern Star, United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary and the Elk Lodge Auxiliary. Kathryn enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, walking and doing ceramics. 

Survivors include her two sons and their spouses: Curtiss and Nancy Cole, Borrego Springs, CA and Murl and Colleen Cole, Slayton, MN; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many step grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother Raymond Norton and his wife Waneta, Mission Viejo, CA; two sisters: and their spouses: Esther “Gay” and Ray Metz and Iris and Gerald “Jerry” Klein both of Slayton, MN’ and one sister-in-law Marilyn Norton. Pismo Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Loren; son Jackie Cole; five brothers and sisters: Glade Norton, Gwen Kuehl, Marquerite Christensen, Max “Buck” Norton and LaNell Norton. 

Memorial services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Friday, July 5, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Ted Kunze officiating. The organist is Janet Voges with special music by Malo Scotting and Jamie Leonard.  The honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren Jeffry Cole, Tracy Cole, Amy Carroll, Travis Cole, Jamie Cole, Shallene Stephenson, Michael Cole and Lisa Olson. Interment is at Westbrook Cemetery Westbrook, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.  To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
