Reaching to shut off the value
Slayton Fire Department participated in classroom training

To become more knowledgeable about propane tank fires Slayton Fire Department participated in classroom training, at a recent drill. On June 24th flames could be spotted shooting several feet into the air behind Murray County Central High School. The Slayton Fire Department with the help of four instructors were busy putting their skills to the test in controlling and extinguishing simulated propane tank fires.

First the firemen learned to approach and shut off a burning natural gas meter. Next the men learned how to cool and approach a burning propane tank before safely turning off the valve. During the training the men also learned how to work as a team and to have trust in each other and their equipment.
