Murray County Central SCHOOL BOARD:

April 17, 2013

Youth Soccer Association on hand pushing to establish a high school soccer program
By: Rebecca Hudson Murray County News Staffwriter

The Murray County Central school board Monday night entertained input from local Youth Soccer Association board members, Tom Kresko,, Michelle Clarke, and Travis Pierson, who were on hand to revisit the idea of establishing a junior varsity as well as boys' and girls'  soccer programs through the school.

Presently the local Plum Creek Soccer League attracts 196 participants, Kresko said, and went on to say that the group, as well as participants, would like to see the program offered at MCC.  "What vision for the future does this board have?" Kresko asked board members.  "Is financial the only barrier?" he added.

Board chair Dan Woldt concurred this fact, explaining that when budget cuts were made a few years ago they were done at 30% reductions across the board in every area.  These cuts were made, he said, in order to save educational opportunities and protect the student to teacher ratio.  Board member Tom Mesner agreed, adding that it is hard for the board to expand on a program when others have been turned down already.
