Did you know that out of every 1,000 kids that attend school, about six of them are affected with hearing loss? Did you also know that those with hearing loss find it difficult to explain what it’s like to those that aren’t affected by it? Well, three MCC students had the chance to share their story to peers in their classes, people in the community, and also shared it in an online community for the entire state of Minnesota. Bonnie Rauk, who serves as the Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing for the SW/WC Service Coop, regularly visits students across seven districts. Students always enjoy learning about new things that relate to their hearing loss. Whether it’s playing games, or visiting with new people, there’s always a fun method the students learn about their needs, not only for the students at MCC, but for the other students she serves in area schools.
