I want to win. I want a free trip to Washington D.C. Boynton mentioned after her trip to state. Statements like that show off the drive and determination that a student such as Alyssa Boynton in the spelling bee will have. That drive paid off for her in the end when she came home with a 4th place finish at the State Spelling Bee.

Boynton, who is a sixth grade student at Murray County Central, began her run towards state when she qualified for the Regional event after she took first place at MCC. On February 12th, Boynton competed in the Regional event, which was held in Redwood Falls, and worked her way up in a similar, but different format. The 15-20 students at the Regional meet started with a written round and later completed a round of three words they had to speak out. The scores from the written round, and the three spoken words, totaled up and that reduced them to the final round where they competed one by one to get into the top four. Those top four were qualified for the state meet.
