On Thursday, March 7, University of Minnesota Extension will be hosting a poultry workshop in Slayton. The workshop is geared toward the needs of a beginning farmer, hobbyist or backyard producer, including those who would like to raise birds as a small commercial enterprise.
At the workshop, we will discuss production in alternative settings, such as using portable structures on pasture, a free range system, or in housing that allows ample space for the birds. We will also explore various marketing methods. Some potential marketing channels that will be discussed include: direct to consumers, supplying local grocery stores, and working with restaurants.
