It didn't take long for anyone entering Divine Mercy Hall at St. Ann's on Sunday morning to witness, in action, neighbor helping neighbor. The Hall was the site of a fundraiser for the Mike and Nico Doom family.
The need for raising funds became necessary when Mike the breadwinner in the family became ill, needed surgery and then a long recovering period that would take him away from work for over three months. Nico holds down two part-time jobs, as a secretary for St. Gabriel's in Fulda and as a waitress at the Left Bank Cafe in Slayton.
The warmth of the community was obvious as one by one hugs were shared, firm handshakes administered and tears of joy witnessed as people gathered to embrace one of their own in the midst of a difficult time.
