A Time of Change in Medicare: Special Election Period (SEP) for Enrollment in a 5-Star Medicare Plan from December 7, 2012 through November 30, 2013
Medicare changes every year. In 2013, you may be able to use a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) to enroll in a plan that Medicare has found to have excellent performance based on surveys from beneficiaries, the plans and administrative data.. A plan receives a rating from 1 to 5 stars: 5-star rating is excellent; 4 stars are above average; 3 stars is average; 2 stars are below average and 1 star is a poor rating. Medicare allows beneficiaries to take advantage of a 5-star special enrollment period (SEP) one time between December 8 and November 30 each year.
