Henrietta Kalas was born on November 7, 1944 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Clarence and Rena DeBoer Vander Bush. She grew up on a farm south of Woodstock, Minnesota and attended Woodstock School.  On June 16, 1962 she and Larry Kalas were married at her parents farm near Woodstock. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm near Garvin, Minnesota and later near Woodstock. In 1974 they moved to Iona, Minnesota and in 1976 they moved to Slayton, Minnesota. Henrietta work as a cook at the Royal Loon, the Roaster, Country Host, Mint Café and Slayton Cenex. She retired in 2008. Henrietta passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the age of 68. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Slayton. Henrietta enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching TV, talking on the phone, and playing pinochle.  

Survivors include her husband Larry Kalas, Slayton, MN; four children and their spouses: Joyce and Kevin Schreier, Avoca, MN, Lori and John Palaschak, Adrian, MN, Diane and Cal Harms, Freeport, MN and Larry Kalas Jr., Slayton, MN; seven grandchildren: Jessica Schreier, Ashley Palaschak, Brittany Palaschak, Nathan Palaschak, Justin Harms, Jeremy Harms and Bryan Harms; four great-grandchildren: Haleigh Schreier, Cheyanne Morris, Brady Palaschak-Smeims, and Camron Lenz; and three brothers and three sisters and their spouses: Melvin and Gale DeBoer. Enteprise, FL, Clarene and Vernon Huber. Pipestone, MN, Clarice Krosschell. Edgerton, MN, Robert and Willy Vander Bush, Sioux Center, IA, Harold and Jewel Vander Bush, Fargo, ND and Marlin and Lucy Vander Bush, Jud, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Tyler Schreier; brother-in-law Jack Krosschell and parents-in-law Arnold and Loretta Kalas.

Funeral services United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Kristi Franken officiating.  The organist was Janet Voges. The pallbearers were her grandchildren.  The honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com.
