Influenza is hitting hard this winter and the Murray County Central school district is not immune to the effects, as Elementary Principal Todd Burlingame told members of the school board at last Tuesday night's meeting. Both the high and elementary schools have noted absenses due to the virus however there is no threat of a need to close the school at this point.
Because of regulations, Burlingame explained, last week the school was required to report to the State Board of Health, that there were confirmed cases of Influenza A as well as flu-like symptoms. State regulations dictate that if 5% of the school's total enrollment is affected or if three students in one classroom were ill, the District must file a report to the State.
