Community members as well as staff and students at Murray County Central gathered in the gymnasium this past Friday afternoon to honor veterans. Their service to this country, whether past or present, was recognized during the program.
Following the advance of colors, the kindergarten students led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Bob Gass, Slayton American Legion, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the service and introduced each of taking part in the program.
The Murray County Central High School band entertained with “United Nations”. Kyle Vos, one of five boys staters, spoke on his experience at boys state listing he learned a great deal about the way the governmental system. Each student was placed in a dorm which was they termed as their city. Students ran for office on all levels of government including city, county, and state. Each campaigned for the office in which they hoped to serve and following election actually had mock laws and other facets of government they enacted.
