LeRoy Brockberg was born on June 3, 1918 on the family farm north of Trosky, Minnesota to Paul and Alvina Meyer Brockberg. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1937.  On January 9, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served in North Africa, Italy, and Western Europe. Following his honorable discharge on October 3, 1945 he returned to the family farm. On April 11, 1948 he and Alice Thorson were married in Trosky, Minnesota.  Following their marriage they made their home in Pipestone, Minnesota until 1975 when they moved to Slayton, Minnesota. LeRoy worked for Northern States Power as Lineman, Generator Operator and later District Manager in Slayton. He retired in 1981. Alice passed away on March 26, 2005. LeRoy remained in their home until 2011 when he moved to Falls Landing Assisted Living Center in Pipestone for a short time before becoming a resident of the Golden Living Center-Slayton in August 2012. LeRoy passed away there on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the age of 94. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton where he served as elder, and usher. He was a major supporter of Trinity Lutheran Pre-School. LeRoy was a member of the Pipestone American Legion and served as past Commander. He also was a member of the Pipestone VFW Post and the Slayton Kiwanis. LeRoy took part in the October 2010 Southwest Honor Flight to Washington, DC. LeRoy enjoyed ballroom dancing with Alice, fishing on the Missouri River in South Dakota and traveling.



Survivors include his five children and their spouses: Thomas and Cheryl Brockberg, Mankato, MN, James and Bonnie Brockberg, West Des Moines, IA, Bill Brockberg, Slayton, MN, Faye and Bill Mollenhauer, Montevideo, MN, and Mark and Kristi Brockberg, Onalaska, WI; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers Dr. Harold Brockberg and his wife Irma, Alexandria, MN and Paul Brockberg, Pipestone, MN and two sisters-in-law: Eileen Brockberg, Fairmont, MN and Lois Thorson, Luverne, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Alice; three brothers: Alvin, Walter and Raymond Brockberg and two sisters: Lore Graphenteen and LaVonne Kollman. 



Funeral services are at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Doug Minton officiating. The organist is Kathy Schwartz with special music by John Freese. The pallbearers are his grandsons. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.  Military honors accorded by the Pipestone VFW and American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW and American Legion Post.
