The Murray County Central school board Monday night approved a contract that will allow for the sharing of Fulda School District Superintendent Luther Onken. The 50/50 share will allow for Onken to divide his time "as equally as possible" between the two districts and will result in a sharing of his $136,609.72 compensation package. MCC's portion of that will be $62,623.79 annually, which is 50% of 11/12th of the total amount, since Onken will come on board one month into the school year on September 1.
Onken, a graduate of Slayton High School, was on hand at Monday night's school board meeting to discuss the arrangement and noted that he believes both districts will benefit in the long term. "We have more to gain from this than you do," he said of Fulda's school district. "There will be a lot of cost savings that can happen as we go forward," he said adding, "Initially I think it is a good thing."
