The Hospice of Murray County has called several places "home" through its 25 year existence in Slayton, but since 2006, home has been a state of the art cottage tucked away in Gullord Park where the city swimming pool once was.
The homey, four-bedroom facility is equipped with every comfort necessary to nurture and care for the terminally ill and provide support for their families. The rooms are furnished beautifully with hand sewn quilts and soothing decor. Throughout the facility there are various areas here guests and their families can visit and enjoy time together. The sense of peace is overwhelming throughout the entire facility.
Outdoors a memorial walkway, complete with a gazebo and etched memorial bricks, meanders through the yard. The walkway was added to the grounds last fall and it greatly enhances the beautiful surroundings. The bricks commemorate those who have died, and serves as a touching remembrance to those no longer living. The walkway is a peaceful haven for families and patients to meditate and reflect upon the lives of others who have gone before. Bricks are being sold for $150 each and will continue to be added to the lovely walkway.
