Chandler - Lake Wilson tornado remembered
By Dorothy Bloemendaal Murray County News staff writer

Twenty years ago to some seems like a long time go but still in our minds we remember the night of June 16, 1992. It was shortly after five o’clock in the evening when the phone rang and it was Mark who was watching television and called to say Lake Wilson was on the screen and he wanted to know how the weather was. All of a sudden it was black as midnight and I couldn’t see across the driveway which was about 25 feet away. Needless to say I told him I would call back as soon as it was over thinking it was just a heavy rainstorm, which I did. The sun was then shining again and all was quiet. No damage at our place, however, in a matter of moments Chuck Vasgaard stopped and told us about the tornado that had hit either Chandler or Lake Wilson. Our natural instinct was to get in the car and survey what had happened. Little did we realize the destruction we were to come upon. All the way on Highway 91 there was evidence of the wind damage. We didn’t have words to describe what we encountered but just walked around and seemed to be in shock along with everyone else.
