1918 - Ella Priebe - 2011

Ella Priebe was born on July 21, 1918 to Simon and Tillie Vlieger Wynia in Hospers, IA. She moved with her family to a farm five miles north of Hadley, MN and attended country school. She moved to Minneapolis to work when she was 16. On March 30, 1940 she and Dwight S. Priebe were married. Ella was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on September 6, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton. Following their marriage they farmed north of Slayton before moving into Slayton in 1950. She raised her family and worked at the Slayton School as a cook and janitor until her retirement in 1984. Ella then moved to Brentwood Southern Retirement Village in Mesa, AZ to be close to her daughter, Cynda and her family, along with her daughter, Carolyn and husband in her later years. Ella enjoyed bowling, water exercise, walking, playing bingo, playing cards, various crafts and reading and was the Saturday Morning Coffee Lady at Brentwood Village until 2007. She moved to an apartment in Mesa until she returned to Minnesota in the summer of 2009 to reside with her son, Rodney and family. She was cared for with love by Rodney and his wife, Darla until her death on Sunday, July 3, 2011 in Rogers, MN. Ella was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Corcoran, MN and a past member of Love of Christ Lutheran Church in Mesa and Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton. Ella was loved by everyone and was always willing to help and care for others. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Ella was well known for always having homemade cookies and donuts with a delicious cup of coffee if you stopped by her home. Even in her final month she was concerned that everyone who came to see her were well fed before they left. Until her last breath she was taking care of others. Ella lived her Christian Faith until her death. Her family will miss her but always carry her memory in their hearts.
