IN MEMORY OF Thomas Clarence Zemler

1937 - Thomas Clarence Zemler - 2010

Thomas Zemler, the son of Herman and Agnus Bacchler Zemler, was born on April 10, 1937 in rural Fulda, Minnesota the fourth of 11 children. He grew up on a farm west of Fulda and attended St. Gabriel's Catholic School and graduated from Fulda High School in 1955. He worked on the family farm until taking a job with the Minnesota DNR. He traveled extensively throughout the state, helping with designing and maintaining state and public grounds. After working there for nine years he bought a farm and started milking cows and raising crops. He enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard and took his basic and advanced training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri as a combat engineer. After his training, Tom was based at the Worthington National Guard Unit where he trained in Alaska, Missouri and Minnesota. He continued farming during his enlistment and after his time with the National Guard was finished he met the love of his life, Geraldine Ramert. They were united in marriage on October 19, 1968 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived on a farm west of Fulda until purchasing a farm east of Fulda where they raised their three children. He worked at St. Gabriel's Church for 16 years as the head of maintenance. Tom passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 73. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Fulda. Tom belonged to the Fulda American Legion Post 318. He enjoyed farming, being outdoors, but especially loved his grandchildren they were his pride and joy. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Geraldine Zemler, Fulda, MN; three children: Doug (Tammy) Zemler, Spirit Lake, IA, Chuck (Carolyn) Zemler, Adrian, MN and Kaylene (Jason) Zemler-Walker, Holmen, WI; 10 grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters, Ed (Elaine) Zemler, Spokane, WA, Joan Remiger, Wabasso, MN, Fred (Diane) Zemler, Fulda, MN, Sr. Rosemary Zemler, Rochester, MN, Jim (Jini) Zemler, Los Cruzes, NM, Rita (Dale) Bunkers, Chester, SD, Richard (Irene) Zemler, Rock Rapids, IA, Donald (Marsha) Zemler, Sauk Center, MN and Maggie Heath, Rochester, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barb Bunkers and two brothers-in-law Herb Remiger and Calvin Heath.

Funeral services St. Gabriel's Church Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 with Fr. Larry Brixius celebrating. The organist was Mary Ann Boom. The soloist was A.W. Koopman. The pallbearers were Joe Remiger, Mike Remiger, Joe Bunkers, Jon Bunkers, Travis Zemler and Eric Bunkers. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, Gracie, Victoria, Ashley, Travis, Brent, Josh, Emily and Zach Zemler and Lance and Logan Walker. Interment at St. Gabriel's Cemetery Fulda, MN. Full military honors provided by the Fulda American Legion Post 318 and VFW Post 9017. The Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda is assisting the family with arrangements.
