| High winds and blowing snow force road closures |

Yards around Slayton looked like a war zone with numerous tree branches scattered everywhere as a result of the high winds and ice. |
Areas were reporting complete whiteout conditions and roads drifting due to the newly fallen snow.

Gusty 30 to 40 mile per hour winds halted all travel on Monday afternoon. All state highways in Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone, Redwood, Yellow Medicine, and Kandiyohi were closed as of 3:30 p.m. due to visibility. The state and county plows were pulled making travel hazardous and in some cases, impassable.
Over 100 Westbrook-Walnut Grove students were kept at the school to ensure the safety of their students. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton had to decided to let out early and then called their buses back in due to zero visibility. Murray County Central had scheduled a teacher in-service for the day and therefore were not forced to deal with the weather.
