4-H CWF Program Assistant and former Murray County 4-Her in Washington DC as guide for 4-Hers | |
|
Imagine the excitement of traveling to Washington DC, ready to explore monuments, memorials, and museums with 40 other 4-Hers. Now, imagine being the one waiting for those 4-Hers prepared to guide them through out nation’s capitol. That is exactly the job that University of Minnesota senior Darielle Gengler had this summer. As a Citizenship Washington Focus Program Assistant, Gengler spent her summer helping 1700 youth from across America discover Washington DC and their role in civic engagement.
“Citizenship Washington Focus”, or CWF, has three main goals for participants: first, to meet 4-Hers from all over the country and what 4-H is like in their state; second, to learn what citizenship means to them; and finally, to understand how they can be involved in their communities and make a real impact,” Gengler stated. Her role in all of this was to ensure that youth learned more about citizenship through workshops, committee meetings as well as tours throughout the DC area.
