She epitomizes the definition. It may be the official motto of the 2009 World Masters Games in Sydney, Australia, but "Fit, Fun & Forever Young" is exactly what local maven Maxine Keller aspires to every day of her life.
She recently returned from an astonishing trip to Australia where she competed in the seventh World Masters Games held there. Keller did herself and her country proud, bringing home a shiny gold medal. First place in a world class competition. "It was just a lot of fun," Keller says, adding, "who would ever think that I would go to the World Games!"
But she did just that. And competing in front of daughters, Linda and Pam, as well as other family and friends, in the beautiful Olympic Stadium there, she placed first in her division of the 1,500 meter walk. Attending the World Master Games, let alone take part in them, was just not something that Keller had planned to do. Until she got the call from Pam, a resident of Sydney, who had been asked to join the Perth volleyball team for the Games, suggesting that she come to Australia and take part as well. After some time she acquiesced, and found herself planning and training for the spectacular trip to Sydney, accompanied by daughter Linda, who lives in Sioux Falls.
