A harvest report released on Monday, October 26th, reported that only 44 percent of beans in Minnesota had been harvested, according to Extension Educator Mike Boersma.
“We are quite a bit behind the average. Usually by this time, 90 to 93 percent of all beans would be harvested, but due to the wet weather, farmers have only been able to take out about that 44 percent,” Boersma said last Tuesday.
Farmers were reporting soybean moisture numbers between 16 and 22 percent during the weekend of October 24th through 26th. “Those numbers mean that the grain is very wet. If beans are going to be stored for six months, the moisture should be at 13 percent. If they are going to be stored longer than that, they should be at 11 percent,” Boersma stated.
