Luverne Johnson was born on September 7, 1942 in Slayton, Minnesota to Marlowe and Amy Ewen Johnson. He grew up in the Dovray area and later lived in Currie, and Slayton. He attended school in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1960. On November 26, 1960 he was united in marriage to Eilene Harnack in Lamberton, MN. Together they farmed southwest of Currie and raised their three daughters.† They later divorced. Luverne and Roy Bjorklund ran a boarding and training stable near Currie. Luverne then married Jill Thompson on December 10, 1981 in Fort Worth, Texas. He then began working as an auctioneer while he continued to farm. He and Dave Bosacker started Bosacker and Johnson Auctioneering in Slayton. He and Jill later divorced. On December 14, 1990 he and Lisa Julius were married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.† Following their marriage they made there home in Slayton. They later divorced. He continued working as an auctioneer in Slayton, MN and started Interstate Auction Center in rural Brandon, SD. Luverne passed away on November 13, 2006 at the Murray County Hospital in Slayton at the age of 64.† He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and a former member of Our Saviorís Lutheran Church in Dovray where he was baptized and confirmed. Luverne was also a member of the Murray County Racing Association and served as president in 2004. He enjoyed racing, shaking dice and visiting with friends. Luverne had friends everywhere he went.

Survivors include his three daughters and their spouses, Susan and Neil Schmitt of Eagan, MN, Darcy and Mike Carlson of Tracy, MN and Sandra and Eric Fultz of Tracy, MN; six grandchildren, Ryan Schmitt, Greg and Paul Carlson and Mallory, James and Brian Fultz; special friend, Sharon Staples of Slayton; three brothers and their spouses, John and Elaine Johnson of Currie, MN, Steve and Sue Johnson of Dovray, MN and Craig and Bernie Johnson of Prior Lake, MN and one sister and her husband, Sandra and Bob Grams of Storden, MN; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother and brother-in-law, Donn Roby.

Funeral services Christ Lutheran Church Slayton, MN on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Ted Kunze and Arlen Foss officiating. The organist is Twyla Hungerford. The soloist is Tom Hook. The pallbearers are Jason Krohn, David Bosacker, Jess Donkersloot, Ronald Robbins, Harley Wahl and Duane Duis. Internment at Our Saviorís Lutheran Cemetery Dovray, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton in charge of arrangements.
