Funeral services are at the Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. with Interim minister Julie Anderson officiating. 
1927 - Maynard Leon Peterson - 2006

Maynard Peterson was born on October 20,1927, on the family farm near Westbrook, Minnesota to Ole and Gelena Kleven Peterson. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Tracy High School in 1945. Following  high school Maynard farmed near Garvin, Minnesota. On October 18, 1950, he and Donna Jeanne Larson were married at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed northwest of  Slayton, Minnesota. Donna Jeanne passed away on December 12, 1971. On August 7, 1973, he and Jean Knutson Olson were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, Minnesota.  Following their marriage they made their home on Maynard’s farm northwest of Slayton. They retired from farming in 1992, but remained on the farm. Due to failing health Maynard became  a resident of the Slayton Manor Care Center 2005. Maynard passed away on July 14, 2006, at the Murray County Hospital in Slayton at the age of 78. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and served on the church council and as an usher. Maynard also was a 4-H leader and NFO member.  Maynard especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports, playing cards, dancing, singing, and reading.

Survivors include his five children and their spouses: Sharon and Al Thom, Crown Point IN; Wayne Peterson and Lynda Newman, Creswell, OR; Valinda Peterson, Excelsior, MN; Lynelle and Don Spain,  Alamagordo, NM; and Dawn and Craig Christensen, Slayton, MN; 11 grandchildren: Erin and Kevin Rawls; Megan and Tim Kearns; Shannon and Mike Finnerty; Dana Peterson and Ray Lang; Sonja and Chris Timmons; Travis Peterson; Ashley, Michael Scott and Sara Wren; Brittany Scott; Sarah Spain; Macy Christensen; and Colin Christensen;  seven great-grandchildren; one step-daughter in-la, Sue Olson,  Marshall, MN; three step-grandchildren: Krista and Nate Van Note: Eric and Emi Olson and Nathan Olson two step great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses: Vernon and Shirley Peterson,  Wendell, MN; and Dennis and Jean Peterson, Tracy, MN; one sisters Lola Cooreman, Tracy, MN; one sister in-law Leona Peterson, Tracy, MN. He was preceded in death by his first wife Donna Jeanne Peterson; second wife Jean Peterson; infant daughter Linda Peterson; infant granddaughter Lisa Marie Spain; stepson Terry Olson; three brothers: Omer, Harvey, and Victor Peterson, four sisters, Blanche Ehleringer, Gladys Kasa, Hildur Peterson, and Darlene Peterson.

Funeral services are at the Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. with Interim minister Julie Anderson officiating. The organist is Twyla Hungerford. The soloist is Heidi Winter. The pallbearers are Lloyd Ehleringer, Gary Peterson, Darrel Peterson, Owen Peterson, Brian Peterson, Kent Cooreman, Byron Kasa, and Donald  Peterson. The honorary pallbearers are George Zanter, Otto Nyquist, Charles Swan, Charles Nelson, Luverne Carlson, Willis Crow, Gaylen Jensen and all of Maynard’s grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Interment at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. Dateline Slayton: Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 4-7 p.m. at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday.
