Many exhibitors, and lots of rides and entertainment for all ages
The 95th Annual Murray County Fair boosted a variety of events as well as nearly 100 commercial exhibitors.

Scores of visitors traveled throughout the fairgrounds this past week enjoying the many exhibits by 4-Her’s and open class participants as well as visiting with the commercial exhibitors.

Grandstand events included the Ranch rodeo on Wednesday evening. Despite the rain, both participants and spectators, enjoyed the competition of 24 teams as well as the 4-H exhibition team. The stock contractors were Tim and Stacy Hennen from Morton, MN; and Tom and Heather Einerson from Olivia, MN. The winning team was made up of Matt Elbert from Olivia, Gary Johns from Tracy, Nick Kissner from Wood Lake, and Lon Schrunk from Lynd.

On Thursday evening the audience was treated to a tractor pull. Winners included:

Other events at the fair included the 1st annual Hershey Chocolate contest held on Thursday afternoon with judging by Tom. There were 28 adults and 12 youth entered in the contest.

Winners included: Adults - 1st, Lavina Fox, Slayton - Chocolate Carrot Cake; 2nd, Marian Feste, Balaton, Death by Chocolate; 3rd, Micah Sunderman, Westbrook, Out of this World Brownies. Youth - 1st, Darren Feste, Balaton - Pizza Bars; 2nd, Aurora Sunderman, Westbrook - Coconut Chip Nut Bars; 3rd, Megan Counter, Slayton - Double Frosted Brownies.

Friday afternoon an apple pie baking contest was hosted by the Stonegate Orchard.

The Apple Pie Baking contest at the Murray County Fair was a fun event with about 100 people enjoying apple pie. Sue Brown of the Country Host donated the ice cream that was served with the pie.

Winners of the contest were First: Marian Mulder; Second: Marilyn Zinnel and tying for Third: Gladys Feste and Elvera Nelson.

Prizes were furnished by Stonegate Orchard and Market. Thanks to the judges for the event: Jason Runck from First National Bank, Barb Staples from MinnWest Bank South and Dale Roemmich from United Prairie Bank.

Once again the fair was a wonderful success due in part to the many volunteers. For many the fair is a tradition and some have volunteered for more than 40 years. Volunteers are a key to a successful fair and Murray County has an abundance of volunteers. A special thanks to the Fair Board members for all their help and support.
