The MCC Rebel’s were 4-0 for the first time in years and were looking forward to the matchup Friday night against the Dawson Boyd Blackjacks. The Blackjacks might be the Rebels toughest test of the regular season as the team is 3-1 and feature one of the best running games in the area. With the season half over each game takes on bigger importance in terms of district titles and playoff seeding. The Rebels faced the Blackjack test head on but in the end, Dawson Boyd and Bentley Boike proved to be too much.

The first quarter belonged to the Murray County Central Rebels. Both teams got the ball one time each. The Blackjacks drove the field and after picking up a trio of first downs the Rebels defense came together and forced Dawson Boyd into a fourth down attempt they were unable to pick up. The Rebels then went other way mixing in Noah Boerboom runs and passes to Danny Blankenship and Justin Benda. The Rebels drive was slow and time-consuming without many big plays. The drive ended with just 18 seconds left in the quarter when Mason Woldt scored on a quarterback sneak from one yard out and followed it up with an extra point and MCC had the lead 7-0.

The second quarter was all about Bentley Boike of Dawson Boyd. Boike is a 6’3”, 215 pound senior running back who combines power with some speed. Boike took the opening handoff of the second quarter for a 65-yard touchdown and Colton Husby added the two-point conversion with 10:52 remaining in the half.

The Rebels’ following drive went three plays and a punt. Boike had three carries totaling 22 yards and two first downs before he took his fifth carry of the quarter 45 yards for his second touchdown of the game. The extra point was missed but the Blackjacks led 14-7.
