One of the best loved musicals of all time is coming to town this weekend: Annie and company will be appearing on Murray County Central’s stage as the school presents its fall musical at the high school, directed by Brenda Whitehead and Lukas Hampton.

Based on the popular comic strip, Little Orphan Annie, written by Harold Gray and that appeared in the New York Daily News in the 1920s, and based on the book, “The Life and Hard Times of Little Orphan Annie,” written by Thomas Meehan, the musical first premiered on the Broadway stage in 1977 and has delighted audiences far and wide in the years since then.

The MCC drama troupe will present the musical on its stage for the very first time with their own interpretation of the traditional play, musical director Lukas Hampton says.  It will be complete with a student pit orchestra, directed by Mike Hegelson, and feature Annie (Maggie Heesen) and Sandy, her faithful adopted dog, her escape from the confines of a dreary orphanage.
