ALS Iona Fest 2018 – Scaring away ALS

What is ALS?

ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. A-myo-trophic comes from the Greek language. “A” means no. “Myo” refers to muscle, and “Trophic” means nourishment – “No muscle nourishment.”

Goals

1. To raise awareness for ALS and raise funds to find a cure/ and drug development. .The funds raised will stay in this tri-state region of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

2. To provide a place for children & adult to have fun during the Halloween festivities.

Specifications

A zombie parade/walk will be held in Iona on Oct. 27, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.. People that are fighting ALS are encouraged to contact Brenda or Jodi as they want them to lead the parade, – golf carts will be provided. They are encouraging people and vehicles to enter in the parade in a Zombie theme (though any costume will be able to join) and start a movement to find a cure- “Scaring Away ALS”.

Before the ALS Zombie parade there will be people to apply makeup for the zombies at the Iona park along with pre-registration of walkers. Vehicles are encouraged to pre-registering ahead of time.

The parade will start at 3:00 p.m., it will start at the Iona park, then go west , and continuing on the tar until the farthest street to the East and back to St. Columba hall for a dance with DJ Cody, Sitt and Grinn Photo Booth. There will also be food and drinks for purchase. This will be before the 4Play dance that is put on by Van Bully’s.
