Michael Peterson, longtime Fulda music Educator, receives statewide award

Michael (Mike) Peterson has been selected as the Minnesota Music Educators Association 2020 Hall of Fame award winner. The prestigious Hall of Fame Award is only given to those music educators who have made significant contributions to Minnesota music education throughout their career.

This Hall of Fame Award stems from Peterson’s decades of service to statewide organizations for music education. He led the Minnesota Music Educators All-State band program for two years as the MMEA Band Vice-President, represented small schools for the Minnesota Band Directors Association when it was formed, and served two four-year terms on the Minnesota State High School League Region 3A Regional Committee.

The Hall of Fame Award Ceremony and reception will be held during the 2020 MMEA Clinic/Conference on Friday, February 14.

Peterson taught music for 36 years, 35 of them in Fulda, serving hundreds of students, families, and the community. He was recruited frequently to teach music programs in larger schools and communities, but ultimately he and his wife decided to stay in Fulda. In addition to music, Mike supported students being well-rounded as he was also the head boys’ golf coach, a junior high basketball coach, and an MSHSL volleyball and basketball referee.
